Synthesis
Synthesis of N,N’-Diphenylbenzidine is achieved by combining 4,4′-dibromodiphenyl (3.12 g, 10 mmol), aniline (2.3 mL, 25 mmol), t-BuONa (2.9 g, 30 mmol), Pd2(dba)3 (183 mg, 0.2 mmol), and P(t-Bu)3 (20 mg, 0.1 mmol) in toluene (30 mL). Then, the mixture was stirred at 90°C for 3 hrs. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction was extracted with distilled water and diethyl ether three times. The organic layer was filtered, the precipitates were washed with acetone and diethyl ether, and the resulting intermediate compound C was dried in a vacuum, yielding 0.3 g (90% yield).
